About

Experience, not a template

Built by a host, for hosts, from eighteen years of running shows.

If there is such a thing as an expert at this, we qualify. Having started trivia businesses in two distinct markets and helped dozens of others get started, we know a thing or two because we have seen a thing or two.

Rick Good started hosting trivia in the Research Triangle of North Carolina in 2008 with a handful of contractor hosts and a DJ rig, first as an affiliate of a national brand, then with his own programs. The business grew to a roster of venues across the region. He then started over in a second market, the Grand Strand around Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, with the same result. He sold the hosting company in August 2025 and now runs SGME Software, the company behind the programs on this site.

There is no substitute for experience

Most folks skip the important steps and try to host a show with no plan past finding some questions. That is not a blueprint for success. Through years of starting and managing shows we learned there are many ways to get started and a short list that work, and the coaching every new host gets here is that short list.

More than just questions

Your participants grew up with the internet and television. Content with no way to display it, score it or pace it lowers the bar before the first question is read. An Excel template is not a scoring system. Teams want to see their name on the screen and where they stand, and the host wants to get there without a second laptop and a calculator.

Software written in live venues

Most companies selling trivia software have never run a trivia night. Ours was developed from 2008 onward while running shows four and five nights a week. Features exist because a host needed them on a Tuesday: game recovery after a laptop restart, a preview mode so the host sees the whole game before the crowd does, a scoreboard teams can read from the back. Hosts currently run these programs in seven states.

Replicable

A business worth building is one someone else could run from the same plan. When you work with us you get the plan, along with coaching on the thinking behind it. Motivational author and speaker Tony Robbins is quoted as saying that "success leaves clues." We have had the success. We will show you the clues.

The software and the weekly content are sold through Game Show Business, and the flagship program has its own site at mindgamestrivia.net.

We have had the success. The clues are written down.
